Analytical Exposition


Purpose 
To persuade the readers or listeners that something is the case, gives a point of view and substantiates what is claimed with reference to relevant authorities.

Generic Structures
  • Thesis (announcement of issue concern)
  • Arguments (reasons for concerns)
  • Reiteration  / conclusion (restates writer’s position)
Language Features 
  • Focus on generic human and non-human participant
  • Use of simple present tense
  • Use of relational processes
  • Use of internal conjunction to state arguments
  • Reasoning through casual conjunction or nominalization
